The well at my house is dry so the family has to put these barrels on a cart and walk for about 5 minutes to a pump to get water. It’s hard work. They also have to pay for the water at the pump. Many of the wells in Ouelessebougou are dry now. The rainy season should start soon and that will fill the wells back up. What will we do if it takes a long time for the rain to come?? Can you name all of the things you use water for every day?
I don't know if you can see it very well in this picture, but I have a really bad rash on my arms and hands. It is starting to spread to my chest and back now. It's because of the heat. I think it's heat rash. At first it just itched a lot, but now it stings. In the morning when I wake up, it's nearly all gone. But in the afternoon when it's very hot, the rash is very red and hurts a lot. The people here in Mali told me to buy this medicine that looks like blue water to put on it. It makes the rash feel better for a few minutes, but it's not making the rash go away. Ouch!
Last
week I ate rat for the first time in my life. Some of my teenage friends
caught it, killed it, and cooked it. I wanted to see what it tasted like
so I had some. It didn’t taste too bad but I could only eat one bite
because I kept thinking, “I can’t believe I’m eating a
rat!!”
It
has finally started to rain! I’m very happy about that because it
cools off when it rains. I hope we get a lot of rain to fill up the wells.
I sleep outside because it’s too hot in the house. So if it rains
in the middle of the night, I have to get up, grab my mat, pillow, and
mosquito net and run for the house before I get drenched. Sometimes the
rain here starts very quickly. Usually it rains REALLY hard too.
