Miss J and chickenHowdy! My name is Miss J. (or at least that's what my students usually call me.) I'm a teacher who decided to take a year off teaching and go live in Mali to help 2nd graders in Utah learn more about the people of Mali. I also worked with the teachers in the schools in Mali to help them learn new ways to teach their classes.

I went on an exciting journey in 2002-2003 to a town called Ouelessebougou in Mali, West Africa. The first time I ever went to Mali was in November, 2000 and loved it! I went to Mali again in October, 2001. I went with a group called the Ouelessebougou-Utah Alliance which is a group of people in Utah who want to help people in Mali. You can find out more about the alliance if you go to Cool Links.

OuelessebougouI lived in Mali for almost a whole year and learned a lot about Malian people. I wish all of you could have come with me on a great big field trip to Mali. It's a WONDERFUL place!!

You can click on the orange buttons on the left to learn more about life in Ouelessebougou. I posted information on this website every week I was there.

Every week I sent a mystery photo to see if students in Utah could guess what it was. All of those photos and the answers to what the photos are in the "old mystery photos" below. See if you can guess what they are!

Old mystery photos:
