Applying to the Salt Lake Center for Science Education
What if I miss the deadline of February 19th?
Students applying to the Salt Lake Center for Science Education after February 19th will be placed on a waiting list. You will be notified as soon as an opening is available.
How are students selected?
Applicants for the Salt Lake Center for Science Education must fill out an application form, available online or in hard copy. Applications to SLCSE are due February 19th. Applications may be sent electronically, via mail, or hand delivered. Within two weeks of receiving an application, the board will notify applicant of receipt. An application will not be considered complete until such notice has been received. In the event that the school does not meet enrollment goals the period for accepting applications may be extended.
Students that are enrolled in SLCSE will be automatically enrolled for subsequent years unless written notification is received by the school indicating their desire to withdraw.
- All eligible students who submit a timely application will be admitted, unless the number of applications exceeds the capacity of the specific grade level.
- If the number of applications exceeds the capacity of the specific grade level, then students shall be selected, by lottery, on a random basis except that the school will give preference to:
- siblings of students already admitted to or attending the school;
- a student of an SLCSE teacher or founder
In each year following the 2009/10 school year 60 sixth grade students will be admitted. Students entering grades 7, 8, 9 or 10 will be admitted if space is available. If there are more applications that spaces available applicants will be selected by lottery, as described above.
