The M. Lynn Bennion Elementary School community, through achieving the Salt Lake City School District performance results will:

Philosophy

We believe that all children can learn. We are dedicated to providing the most appropriate and effective learning experiences possible. We believe that each child must be treated with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. We believe in nurturing recognition of the human dignity and value all people possess.

School Programs

Community Education After School Program:
This after school program, provided from a 21st Century grant, provides help with homework, arts and crafts, science club, and an expanded curriculum for a small fee.

Media Program:
Core curriculum objectives, specific to individual grades are taught by a certified teacher. Topics include computer skills for research, elements of a research paper, library skills. Instruction is provided weekly.

Extended Learning Program:
A pullout program which provides additional activities for students needing extension activities. Students complete individualized lessons under the guidance of a certified teacher.

Resource:
Students identified with needing special education are provided with a variety of services. An Individualized Education Plan is developed mutually by the school and parents. Assessment battery occurs prior to identification and participation.

Instrumental Music:
Fifth grade students may select to be involved in either strings or general music. Sixth grade students may select to be involved in general music, strings, or band. All instruction is under the direction of a certified music teacher.

Social Work:
Students with emotional or other problems including attendance may work with a licensed social worker. As part of these services, the social worker acts as the liaison with other agencies throughout Salt Lake County. Students and their families may be approached and served.

Speech:
A qualified speech clinician is available to provide services to the students. These services are available to qualified individuals only. An assessment battery is administered to determine status. Please check with your child's classroom teacher or the office for additional information.
