Parkview Elementary teachers and staff believe students learn in multiple ways and we accept the Salt Lake City School District Vision Statement that each student is valued and nurtured to achieve his or her highest potential academically, physically, and socially, resulting in a principled contributor to society. We will continue to learn, understand, and practice the Elements of Reform, including community collaboration, advocacy for all, accountability and family involvement. We will implement and articulate the Salt Lake City School District Performance Results, which are: Complex Thinker and Problem Solver, Contributor to the Community, Quality Worker and Producer, and Self-Directed Learner.
Facts About Parkview
Parkview’s School Improvement Plan focuses on four major goal areas:
- Parkview is implementing a comprehensive school reform program which consists of staff development models that are integrated into all curriculum areas and address the needs of all students. This program is based on best teaching practices and includes on-going assessments.
- Increase Alternative Language Services through structural changes and staff development. Parkview has a bilingual cohort group that originated in Kindergarten and now extends through grade three. We will offer bilingual classrooms through grade six when appropriate. Nearly 100% of our classroom teachers have, or are currently working on their ESL endorsement.
- Create an environment within the school where families feel welcome. Programs and activities will be created to address the needs that families feel they have in dealing with their preschool/school age children. Parkview families and staff developed a parent compact to address the link between home and school.
- All significant subgroups within the school will make Adequate Yearly Progress as defined by state and federal law.
Parkview Highlights
- Parkview’s literacy plan is Balanced Literacy aSeptember 17, 2009 Teachers have had extensive training in the implementation of California Early Literacy Learning (pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade) and Extended Literacy Learning (3rd through 6th grade).
- Parkview’s math plan is comprehensive. We have a 90 minute math block. Teachers have a specific plan to follow which begins each day with review and moves into new learning.
- Programs include: America Reads, Reading Recovery, Project Link, PTA, Community of Caring, daily student recognition, Colors of Success, school-wide citizenship plan, Student of the Month, Smart Behavior Choice recognition, computer lab, community service volunteers, Parents as Teachers, block collaboration schedule, business partnerships with IHC and the Chamber of Commerce, and collaboration with the Bennion Center.
